There's Going To Be A New Harry Potter Book

Why Is This Important?

Because you never have to let the fantasy die.

Long Story Short

Publisher Little, Brown U.K. just announced that there will be an eighth Harry Potter book, coming out July 31. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be based on the script from the eponymous play.

Long Story

Life's tough for Harry Potter fans. By all appearances, there would be no more books, no more movies and no more excuses for adults to dress up like wizards or whatever it is Harry Potter fans do in their spare time. The only hope of respite, and it was a small one, was a West End play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child , set to open this summer. Good luck getting tickets, though — you'd have to have been a wizard yourself to get them before they sold out. Once again, there was nothing. Then this morning, there was this:

Quickly retweeted by author J.K. Rowling herself, it looks like there will in fact be another Harry Potter book coming out July 31. It's not exactly a proper Harry Potter book — it's essentially the reprinted script for the new play, and is in fact being sold as part of a marketing campaign for the new play. But it's still an original J.K. Rowling Harry Potter story, one that picks up immediately after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

It's not perfect, probably, but thirsty Potterheads will take what they can get at this point.
